Nine albums including Cut Copy `In Ghost Colours`, The Presets `Apocalypso` and The Drones `Havilah` have made the shortlist for this year`s Australian Music Prize.
As well, Beaches ‘Beaches’, CW Stoneking ‘Jungle Blues’, Jack Ladder ‘Love Is Gone’, Tom Cooney ‘Presque Vu’, Eddy Current Suppression Ring ‘Primary Colours’ and Ross McLennan ‘Sympathy For The New World’ make up the final 9.Prize Director Tracey Grimson told Undercover News that this year the quality was exceptionally high and that meant nine acts making up the Shortlist instead of the previous eight. “We didn’t just add the number 9 act. We had nine great ones,” she said.
The AMP panel will debate the nine albums on March 13th and select a winner. The decision will be announced at a function in Sydney that day.
The winner will receive $30,000 in prize money from the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) and one artist will receive the Red Bull Award In Recognition of Outstanding Potential, a cash prize of $15,000.
The official announcement was made this afternoon by Deborah Conway on stage at the St Kilda Festival with Channel V’s Jane Gazzo and was followed by a performance by the Cut Copy DJs.
