Spinal Tap is about to Tap into the 21st Century.
They announced today they are recording their first new material in 16 years.The spoof heavy metal band first appeared in the 1984 "mockumentary" This Is Spinal Tap, which has since become a cult classic.
They recorded two albums off the back of their success, the last one being Break Like The Wind in 1992.
They briefly reformed to perform at Live Earth at Wembley Stadium in 2007.
The band, who came from a fictional London neighbourhood called Squatney, was the brainchild of American actors Michael McKean, who played David St Hubbins, Harry Shearer aka Derek Smalls and Christopher Guest, who starred as Nigel Tufnel.
Speaking to BBC 5 Live, Shearer said: "It'll be for download as well as on conventional media later this year."
"We've never recorded the song we did at Live Earth, Warmer Than Hell, and I think they (Spinal Tap) are trying to revisit their old success.
"Not that they were ever popular, maybe in their own universe.
"We'll do a song called Gimme Some More Money, probably with some dubious results."
