Sonic Youth Working On First Indie Album

The 16th studio album from Sonic Youth is well underway.

The band has been in the studio across November and December writing and recording the material for the album. John Agnello (Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan, Dinosaur Jr) has been mixing.

The yet-to-be titled album will be their first for Matador Records, having left Universal last year. ‘Rather Ripped’ from 2006 was the last album for the major label.

After the album is finished, a number of dates have already been locked away for the band. Sonic Youth will perform for the 2009 No Fun Festival in New York in May.

They will also perform in Austria and Germany in April.
