Booker T. Jones is about to release his first solo album in more than 20 years and Neil Young is the driving force behind 9 of the 10 tracks.
The album, called ‘Potato Hole’ will be released in April.Neil has a history with the MG’s. He toured with them in 2002. Booker T and Donald Duck Dunn from the MG’s also played on Neil’s 2002 album ‘Are You Passionate’.
This new phase of the Booker T career also features backing band Drive-By Truckers, a very different sound to the MG’s.
Booker T. & The MG’s are best known for their 1962 instrumental ‘Green Onions’ but generated their eternal fame as the house band for Stax/Volt records.
At Stax, the band featuring Jones, Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn and Steve Potts, performed on hundreds of songs and dozens of hits collectively or in parts like ‘Hold On I’m Coming’ with Sam & Dave, ‘Try A Little Tenderness’ for Otis Redding and ‘Knock On Wood’ for Eddie Floyd.
The band has a duel career with soul man Isaac Hayes who was also a house writer for the label, as well as a star in his own rite.
Most recently, Cropper and Dunn were the engine behind the Guy Sebastian album ‘The Memphis Sessions’.
‘Potato Hole’ will be released on April 21 through Anti Records (Shock in Australia).
Meanwhile, Young will release his next album ‘Fork In The Road’ soon.
