American band Kings Of Leon must love Australia. With a population of 303 million in the USA compared to 22 million in Australia, more Aussies have purchased the `Only By The Night’ album than Americans.
US sales for ‘Only By The Night` this week were 331,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan this week. The album in Australia has sold 457,999.The ‘Only By The Night’ album is now stationed in around 6.7% of Australian households yet in America it is only in 1/10th of a percent of households.
Australia has certified ‘Only By The Night’ 6 times platinum. In the USA, it is just over to halfway to maybe going Gold.
Working on per capita stats, the US equivalent of the Aussie sales should have the album sales Stateside at over 6 million instead of 331,000. Per capita, Australian sales have outperformed the American sales by times 20.
If the American sales were looked at per capita in Australia, then the equivalent sales figure would be around 20,000 units.
Australia certainly loves Kings Of Leon, but then again, America never has been much for royalty.
