2009 will mark the 20th anniversary of the now classic second album from Beastie Boys `Paul`s Boutique`.
Capitol Records released the original album on July 25, 1989. On January 27 this year, the 20th anniversary album will be released.‘Paul’s Boutique’ was produced by the Dust Brothers and recorded in Los Angeles and New York.
The album was considered a commercial disaster in its day. Off the back of the band’s platinum debut, ‘Paul’s Boutique’ was seen as a stiff. However, as the years passed, it was often written up as one of the great albums of its time and often cited by fans as their favourite Beastie Boys album.
The new version of the album has been digitally remastered under the supervision of the Beastie Boys.
The album featured more than 100 samples.
Here is a list of the music used by Beastie Boys before sampling became common.
