Kylie Minogue came home to Melbourne last night for the last three shows of her KylieX2008 and dazzled her fans with a show she has made her own.
Never mind a Madonna show, Australia has Kylie and the KylieX2008 show wallops Madonna’s MILF performance. Finally, Kylie has a relevant to today show. This tour is totally about seizing the moment. Build around the current X album, KylieX2008 brings Ms Minogue’s performance into the present.
It isn’t dependent on hits either. In fact, what could be called the signature tune ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ was dropped in as the second song. Any other artist with a song that big would tease it for the encore. Not Kylie, she has plenty of ammo to fire up a crowd.
The hits are few and far between only making up half the songs in the setlist. KylieX2008 is definitely not a classic hits show. Her solo version of ‘Kids’ is always great though. Robbie who?
The visual aspect of KylieX2008 was incredible. The stage was a star of the show. This hi-tech floor built with latest technology allowed the stage to change to suit the song. Lasers would light the floor differently for every set.
During Beach Party, the much talked about ‘Copacabana’ was featured. Barry Manilow is suddenly cool again.
The show was done in six parts with the relevant costume changes. Kylie changed from the dominatrix in Xposed to the lounge singer of the encore.

For me, the musical highlight was ‘Slow’. Kylie reinvented most of the older songs for this tour and took on a Nine Inch Nails feel for ‘Slow’.
From the sound of the crowd, the audience was not disappointed.
What a way to end 08.
