It has been a three-week trek to the top of the charts for Idol winner Wes Carr but this week he finally made it.
After losing out by just 11 units this week, the Wesbians have gone out in force and voted with their wallets by buying the CD single of ‘You’.On physical sales, ‘You’ sold 11,364 units, well ahead of Lady Gaga’s ‘Poker Face’ with 2,637 sales.
Lady Gaga outsold Wes with digital sales. ‘Poker Face’ did 12,633 units to ‘You’ with 4,884 sales.
As a digital single, ‘You’ was at number 9.
However, the combined figure is all that matters and that is what got Wes on Top.
All up, ‘You’ sold 16,248 units and ‘Poker Face’ sold 15,270.
Wes Carr was an interesting win for Idol. He is the first professional performer to qualify and win.
He has previously released two solo albums as well as an album with Tambalane, his band with Silverchair’s Ben Gillies.
His Idol album will be released sometime in 2009.
