Coldplay have issued a statement denying they ripped off the title track from the `Viva La Vida` album from Joe Satriani.
In a statement published at coldplay.com, the band states, “With the greatest possible respect to Joe Satriani, we have now unfortunately found it necessary to respond publicly to his allegations. If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him. Joe Satriani is a great musician, but he did not write or have any influence on the song Viva La Vida. We respectfully ask him to accept our assurances of this and wish him well with all future endeavours”.They are kidding right? If Coldplay can get out of this one then I am going to record a song ripping off ‘Stairway To Heaven’.
On the weekend, Undercover reported that Satriani had taken legal action against Coldplay claiming his song ‘If I Could Fly’ is exactly the same piece of music as Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’.
This is Joe Satriani we are talking about. Not some unknown kid accusing Chris Martin of walking past his house while he had the amp up loud.
Coldplay are clearly in trouble over this but by the tone of their statement, also in denial.
The two songs match up.
Compare them for yourself.
