New York`s noisy clique Sonic Youth are teaming up with Led Zeppelin bassist and arranger John Paul Jones and Japanese violinist/composer Takehisa Kosugi to create a soundtrack to a dance piece.
The composition will be used by the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, and they will premiere the piece in Brooklyn in April 2009.The piece will celebrate the 90th birthday of company founder Merce Cunningham, a choreographer who has been described as “one of the most important choreographers of our time” (don’t be offended by this, dance nerds, but what exactly does that mean?).
Will this be amazing, or a train wreck? Looks good on paper. Only time will tell!
