George Harrison absolutely hated what Guns n` Roses did with Bob Dylan`s `Knocking On Heaven`s Door’.
In the interview I did with George in the 90’s, I asked him if he had heard the Gunners version of his friend Bob’s song.“Yeah, didn't even get the chords right, did they?” he replied. “There's only three chords in it, but they managed to get one of them wrong.
The comment was worth bringing back as last weekend marked the 7th anniversary of the death of George, and the first week of sales for the new Guns n’ Roses ‘Chinese Democracy’ album.
The first week sales for the album have been well below expectation.
Projections this week by Hitdailydouble.com show the album polling well below first week sales by Kanye West ‘808s & Heartbreak’.
The album will most likely debut at number two in the USA.
In other markets, only Brazil and Finland are reporting a number one debut for ‘Chinese Democracy’.
The album came in at number 2 in New Zealand and the UK; number 3 in Australia, Ireland, Italy, Japan and Norway; number 4 in Hungary, Netherlands and Sweden, 7 in Denmark and 12 in Spain.
Blabbermouth.net is reporting that with first week sales likely in the 200-250k region, ‘Chinese Democracy’ may very well sell less than ‘Contraband’, the first album by Velvet Revolver.
Velvet Revolver was Guns n’ Roses without Axl Rose. ‘Chinese Democracy’ is Axl Rose without Guns n’ Roses.
It might be time to kiss and make up.
