Angels guitarist John Brewster suffered a heart attack on the weekend and is currently recovering in a Queensland hospital.
The band was getting ready to perform at Rumours in Toowoomba when John fell ill and was rushed to hospital. He had a 5-way bypass operation.A friend of John’s told Undercover that he is already back on his feet but it may take months before he can go back to the band.
In the meantime, John’s eldest son Sam is taking his father’s place on stage as “the show must go on”. Sam will finish the current tour for his dad. Sam is the obvious replacement for John as “he learned all the songs in the womb”.
The Angels were one of this year’s surprise reunion acts. The classic line-up featuring the original line-up of the Brewster brother, Buzz Bidstup, Chris Bailey and Doc Neeson on vocals, were back together for the first time since 1982.
Through-out most of this century, The Angels band were in a bitter legal lock-down with singer Neeson, but cast their differences aside when they discovered the only people getting rich off their battle was the lawyers.
To mark the 30th anniversary of their classic album ‘Face To Face’, The Angels went back on the road.
The next scheduled show is tomorrow night (November 27) at The Settlers Hotel in Mildura.
