Original member of "The Jam" Bruce Foxton is coming to Australian with drummer Mark Brzezicki (Big Country, The Cult, Procol Harum) and guitarist Russell Hastings for a " From The Jam" tour.
They will be playing songs by The Jam, but does this give them the right to call themselves "From The Jam"? If neither Paul Weller or Rick Buckler are involved, in my book, they should not be calling themselves "From The Jam." It would perhaps be a little more acceptable if The Jam had more than three originals, say 6 members and 3 of them were doing the show?
Lets look at other musical trios and see which ones would be able to pull off a tour without two original members by placing "From" in front of the original band name. I think you'll agree that it just isn't cricket..... is it?
From Silverchair - Without Daniel Johns and Ben Gillies?
From The Dirty Three - Without Warren Ellis and Mick Turner ?
From ZZ Top - Without Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill?
From Supergrass - Without Gaz and Rob Coombes?
From Husker Du - Without Bob Mould and Grant Hart?
Anymore examples and I start to sound like a record store dude music bore, so we'll leave it there. They should call themselves Foxton, Brzezicki & Hastings as per their website.
If you would like to catch " From The Jam" playing classic Jam tunes, and showcasing some of the latest tracks from their recent album, ‘Back In The Room’ which features guest spots by former Jam member Paul Weller plus former Jam and From The Jam member Rick Buckler, you can see them at the venues below. See, if Rick Buckler was still in " From The Jam" the band name wouldn't seem so bad...
