Kraftwerk were a no-show at the Global Gathering concert at the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne on Saturday, and so were the crowd.
Melbourne was hit with unseasonably cold and wet weather on Saturday, which also forced the cancellation of the A Day On The Green show featuring John Mellencamp and Sheryl Crow. The mid-wintry day didn’t help Global Gathering that had poor ticket sales to start with. The walk-up on the day was almost non-existent.
Kraftwerk didn’t play because of an undisclosed illness by member Fritz Hilpert. He was taken to hospital for observation.
His illness left the Global Gathering event without a headline act.
The Gorillaz were moved to the main stage to replace Kraftwerk although it was the Gorillaz without Damon Albarn.
Global Gathering featured Mark Ronson, Fisherspooner, Felix Da Housecat and Sasha.
Hilpert recovered enough to fly to Perth for Kraftwerk did play the next event.
