Paul McCartney says that the story from last week claiming that Eleanor Rigby is a real person is rubbish.
"Eleanor Rigby is a totally fictitious character that I made up," McCartney said in a statement to global news agency Agence France-Presse. "If someone wants to spend money buying a document to prove a fictitious character exists, that's fine with me."Last week, a person claimed that in 1990, she was sent a document by Paul McCartney stating that Eleanor Rigby was a hospital scullery maid.
The person claimed that the document proved Eleanor Roby was actually born on November 30, 1911.
She was attempting the make money by auctioning the document.
The Beatles recorded the single in 1966. McCartney says the name came from a combination of actress Eleanor Bron, who starred in The Beatles’ movie Help, and a wine merchant.
