The Labelle reunion is about to blossom into a full-tilt tour with opening night at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem.
Labelle, featuring the original line-up of Patti Labelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash, have just released ‘Back To Now, their first album in 22 years. The 70s R&B act is best known for the global smash ‘Lady Marmalade’, covered more recently by Christina Aguilera and Pink for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. The song featured the provocative French lyric “Voulez-vous coucher avec moi” (will you sleep with me) which, believe it or not, was pretty risqu?? in its day.
The group split after the release of their 6th album in 1976, but have reunited for one-off shows over the years. In 1991, they also played at the Apollo Theater.
The new album ‘Back To Now’ features production from Lenny Kravitz and 70s soul knob twiddlers Gamble and Huff.
