will.i.am is known for pushing boundaries in the integration of music and technology, his newest collaboration will turn an entire building into a musical instrument for Vivid Sydney 2012.
will.i.am will participate in an interactive light and music collaboration on the façade of the refurbished Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) in Sydney.
Billed as a world first, the installation will allow festival-goers to literally 'play the building' via a purpose-built interface that interacts with will.i.am's music and the projections of renowned Sydney artist Justene Williams, whose performative style is particularly suited to the collaboration. Using arm and hand gestures, the public can direct the artwork and rearrange will.i.am's loops and samples, controlling the tone and chord progression.
Vivid Sydney (25 May – 11 June) is the largest festival of light, music and ideas in the Southern Hemisphere, featuring the spectacular illumination of the Sydney Opera House sails and over 60 lighting installations.
