Stores across Australia have broken the embargo for `Black Ice` and started selling the album early. Despite the official release date being tomorrow (October 18), `Black Ice` is being sold now by just about every store that has it.
One retailer told Undercover, “we don’t care about embargos and the fans don’t care about charts. We are here to sell music and the fans are here to buy it. I couldn’t care less if Sony has an embargo on it until tomorrow. My customers want it today and I’m giving it to them”.The early sales means that we will see ‘Black Ice’ appear on the chart this Monday.
ARIA’s weekly chart is based on sales from Saturday to Friday. The ‘Black Ice’ album would not necessarily appear on the Aussie chary until Monday October 27 but we will see it appear on this Monday October 20.
Around 10,000 units may see in stores pre-release. That may be enough for the album to come in at number one on one-day sales if the Kings of Leon album slows.
‘Only By The Night’ by KOL sold 19517 units this week in its third week of release. That was an impressive figure. Number 2, ‘Death Magnetic’ by Metallica sold 8012 units, which AC/DC should easily beat.
Based on reactions in stores today, ‘Black Ice’ will be either number one or two on the Aussie chart.
All shall be revealed on Monday.
