Western Australian music will wave the flag again in 2009 with the WAMi Festival between May 6 to 10.
The 16th festival will for the first time feature a new awards program, the WA Indigenous Music Awards to honor WA’s local Indigenous acts. While the festival is 6 months away, the activity will start next month with the WAMi Warm-Ups, a series of gigs from the Aussie states’ active artists.
"Moving the WAMi Festival to May gives us the opportunity to create new partnerships and pilot new events that celebrate and draw focus to Western Australian music in innovative and highly relevant ways", explains WAMi Festival Director Sarah Norton.
WAM Chief Executive Officer Paul Bodlovich says "It's exciting that the direction in which Sarah is taking the WAMis will ensure that it continues to be the best showcase and conference event in the country for many years... with our non-commercial goals ensuring that the content is targeted at developing our local artists and industry."
Conference registrations will begin in November.
