That old chestnut about The Kinks reuniting is doing the rounds of the UK press again, but co-founder Dave Davies has put an immediate stop to it.
The BBC was the source of the new story after Ray Davies commented that he would like to reunite the band and that they are “three quarters of the way there”.Three quarters in band members may be the case but as a creative force, the Davies brothers were more like 80% of the band.
Dave suffered a stroke in 2004 but his relationship with his brother Ray was volatile prior to that.
In response to this week’s reunion news, the administrator at Dave’s official website has posted the cryptic but subtle comment:
“No more looking back,No more living in the past.Yesterdays gone, thats a fact,Now theres no more looking back.No more looking back.No more living in the past.Yesterdays gone, thats a fact. Now theres no more looking back”.
The words are from one of the Kinks songs of the early 80s.
Dave quickly dismissed Kinks reunion rumours when they last surfaced in December 2007. Then he referenced another Kinks song ‘When Pigs Fly’ and likened a Kinks reunion to “a poor remake of Night of the Living Dead’.
As for the Ray Davies solo gigs, Dave says, “Ray has been doing karaoke Kings shows since 1996”.
That’s a little harsh. If Ray is in your town, Undercover recommends it as a must see show.
