Ray Davies’ musical ‘Come Dancing’ has been scrapped and it’s U.K. tour will not be going ahead.
The play, which originally premiered at London’s Theatre Royal Stratford East in 2008 was being revived in 2010 by director Bill Kenwright.A spokesperson for Davies’ studio Konk issued the following statement:
“Ray is extremely disappointed that the 2010 Come Dancing Tour will not be happening and will be issuing a statement in due course. I'm sorry many of you have been left without information. I won't be able to answer questions until I have been given the full statement.”
There is no more information available.
The play is set in a London dance hall in the 1950s and features a slew of new material written by Davies for the show. The only Kinks song to appear in it was the title track.
In other news, Davies revealed to News Of The World that he hopes to write songs with his brother Dave, which hints at a completely unexpected Kinks reunion.
"I suggested he do some low-key shows to see how well he can play,” he told the paper. “If we're going to play together again, we can't hit the road straight away with a big-time announcement.
"But, if Dave feels good about it and there's good new material that we can write, it'll happen."
He is also planning an album of duets, and said Bruce Springsteen has shown an interest.
