Musician and actor Justin Timberlake likes to squeeze in 18 holes when he gets a chance, so much so that he’s on the television ads to promote the upcoming PGA tour.
The spots see Timberlake meticulously preparing the grounds as part of his one-man grounds crew in preperation for the “Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open”.The “Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open” is actually just the Las Vegas stop of the PGA tour, which has been renamed to honour their host, Timberlake.
“I couldn't be more excited to host the upcoming 2008 Las Vegas tournament and to be involved with the Shriners Hospitals for Children," Timberlake said in a statement. "We will make sure to make this event unique and memorable, and we will raise money for charity while participating in the greatest game ever played. I thank the PGA TOUR and the Shriners Hospitals for Children this amazing opportunity. Raising money to better children's lives while playing golf? I can't think of a better way to pass the time."
At the risk of blowing the punchline for you, the spots also feature an appearance from PGA Golf Pro Duffy Waldorf, who says to Timberlake, “Dude, aren't you taking this hosting a golf tournament thing kind of seriously?”
They will be seen on the Golf Channel in the USA and the event will take place in Las Vegas from October 13 - 19.
The event will keep this name for the next five years.
Previous temporary event renamings have included the ‘Frank Sinatra Open Invitational’, which was a one off event in Palm Springs, California in 1963 (although it too was supposed to last five years) and the much more successful ‘Bob Hope Chrysler Classic’, which has been running in Coachella Valley, California every year since 1965.
