After the success of Australian Toby Rand on Rock Star: Supernova, his Melbourne band Juke Kartel hit LA.
Many expected Toby Rand to win the search to find a frontman/woman for supergroup Supernova (now dubbed Rock Star Supernova due to legal wrangling with another band of the same name), consisting of ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, ex-Guns n' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke and the ever-present Motley Crue drum monkey Tommy Lee.Although Canadian Lukas Rossi scored the gig, Rand was enormously popular with fans (particularly the ladies), and his instantly catchy original composition 'Throw It Away' gained plaudits from the rocker judges as well as the studio audience.
His Melbourne band Juke Kartel had taken part in the 2005 Taste Of Chaos tour, as well as supporting Nickelback through Australia in April of 2006, but now have gone to LA to join their singer. They left for LA on September 20 with two shows at the notorious Viper Room already scheduled for September 28 and 29. On September 22 they went into the studio to record some tracks, including 'Throw It Away'.
So even though he didn't win Rock Star Supernova, Rand and band set to storm the US regardless.
