Manchester based Elbow has taken out the coveted Mercury Music Prize for 2008 with their album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’.
During their acceptance speech, singer Guy Garvey referred to the prize as “the best thing that's ever happened to us.” And dedicated the award to their late friend Brian Clancy - otherwise known as the “seldom seen kid”.They beat albums from Robert Plant and Allison Krauss, Radiohead and The Last Shadow Puppets, amongst others.
They join previous winners The Klaxons, The Arctic Monkeys, M-People (seriously), Primal Scream and an ongoing list of some of the greatest bands the UK has produced in the past near-two decades.
