Britney Spears will be the first guest at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday.
While she won’t be performing, Britney will be the first presenter on stage.“MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMA’s' I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated,” she said in a statement.
MTV President Van Toffler is equally excited to have her on the show. “Britney has done everything from perform with a snake, lock lips with Madonna and prove that what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas. I can’t wait to see what she does to kick off this year’s show,” he said.
Britney is up for three awards this year. She is going for ‘Best Female Video’, ‘Best Pop Video’ and ‘Video of the Year’ for ‘Piece of Me’.
Britney Spears first appeared on the VMA’s in 1999 when she was 17 years old. She teamed up with NSYNC for that performance and they did ‘Baby One More Time’ and ‘Tearin’ Up My Heart’.
The next year, Britney and Christina Aguilera presented an award together and Britney sang a mash-up of her own ‘Opps ... I Did It Again’ with The Stones ‘Satisfaction’.
In 2001, she performed a Guns N Roses’ styled version of ‘Slave 4 U’ wrapped in an albino python.
In 2002, she didn’t perform. Instead, dressed as a dominatrix, she presented Michael Jackson with a birthday cake. Jacko thought it was a lifetime achievement award.
2003 was the year of the pash. That was the show were Britney and Madonna locked lips.
After a few years off, she was back in 2006 sharing the stage with then husband Kevin Federline.
In 2007, it went all horribly wrong with a not-to-flattering performance.
All eyes will be on Britney, Sunday night from 9 to see what in store in the next exciting episode of Britney Does the VMAs.
