Andrea Bocelli broke his own record on Sunday at Sydney`s Acer Arena.
In 2004, Bocelli set the record for box-office takings when he clocked up $AU2.945 million.At his return show on Sunday night, Bocelli put $AU3.273 million through the registers.
Bocelli is touring Australia for 26-year old promoter Craig McMahon. This is McMahon’s first tour for his company Serendipity. “To be associated with such a success on your very first touring venture is more than a dream come true “ he said from backstage at Acer Arena,” he said in a statement.
Tim Worton of AEG Ogden, owners of Acer Arena said, “this is another milestone for Acer Arena and is in keeping with the healthy trend of the live entertainment business, despite the current economic climate. People still need that pleasure break and we are committed to offering as much variety as possible”.
Bocelli performed for 13,000 fans on Sunday in Sydney. Australian singer Tina Arena shared the stage with him to perform the classic ‘The Prayer’.
Acer Arena is ranked as the number three venue in the world behind London’s O2 Arena and New York’s Madison Square Garden.
