Tommy Lee's new band will be known as 'Rock Star Supernova' after Californian band Supernova successfully filed an injunction preventing the television band from using the same name.
It's an impressive victory for the original Supernova, a three-piece from Costa Mesa, California, who will retain the rights to the name. They filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the CBS show's producers in June after settlement negotiations broke down."Our client, the original Supernova band, is glad this matter has been resolved," said John A. Mizhir, Jr. of the law firm of Fish & Richardson P.C. "The guys are looking forward to once again concentrating on their music. This case has been a perfect example of how the legal system can and should work. Under the law, everyone has equal rights, no matter how big or small."
'Rock Star: Supernova' concluded last week, with Canadian Lukas Rossi winning the right to front the supergroup featuring Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke.
