The funeral of Tasman Blizzard from the Meanies will take place at the Port Lonsdale Board Riders Club on Monday.
Tas was killed in a car accident a week ago on the Bellarine Peninsula near Geelong.Tas was a founding member of The Meanies at the start of the band in 1993. Prior to that, he was a member of Seaweed Goorillas.
Tragically, he was the second member of The Meanies to lose his life this year. Dennis DePianto passed away in February after a battle with cancer.
Tas lost control of his car in wet conditions on the Peninsula and spun into a dam. He was trapped in the submerged car.
In a statement, bandmate Wally Kempton said, “I’m so crushed about Tasman’s death. He has always been one of the funniest guys I’ve had the privilege to know and it breaks my heart to think that I’ll never again have him next to me on stage playing his heart out. I hope there’s an afterlife with a big ocean and perfect waves for our Wompy Stompy Surfer Boy”.
Tas was a popular member of the surfing community and served as President of the Port Lonsdale Board Riders Club from 2006-2007.
His funeral will take place at the club on Monday at 11am.
