Usher announced on Wednesday (August 6) that he has rehired his mother to manager his career, after they parted ways last year.
A statement released by the singer’s record label says, “Usher has dissolved his management arrangement with Benny Medina and has re-engaged Jonnetta Patton as his manager.”Patton managed her son’s career until May last year, with Usher saying at the time, “I am simply more interested in building the strength of my family. And in order to do that, I feel it’s best to separate my business life from my personal life.”
However, his latest album ‘Here I Stand’ has not been as commercially successful as his previous album ‘Confessions,’ which has sold close to 10 million copies.
Medina addressed the split saying, “With an artist like Usher, the bar is set really high. Whether it was management, marketing or the music, we achieved a number one single and a number one album. It is a completely new day and time in music now. In four years, his audience, demographic, and musical direction has changed. Records like Lil Wayne’s ‘Lollipop’ are the type of phenomena that ‘Yeah’ was in 2004. I had a great time and we parted ways amicably.”
