As the first reviews of the upcoming Primal Scream album ‘Beautiful Future’ begin to surface, it’s becoming easier to paint a picture of what this album might sound like.
We’ve been lucky to sneak a peak at just a couple of tracks and we’ve heard some pretty diverse stuff, spanning from their more recent electronica sound to their early 90s rock ‘n’ soul kick to their 80s garage rock. The song ‘Zombie Man’ in particular, however, we couldn’t help but notice sounded an awful lot like Ringo Starr’s 1973 hit ‘Back Off Boogaloo’.
While comparisons can be drawn between the two tracks, it must be noted that we haven’t seen any artwork and cannot confirm as of yet the actual credits.
If Ringo doesn't have a songwriting credit, we wonder if this will cause another furore over copyrights. Let’s face it; members of The Beatles haven’t always been squeaky clean when it comes to their influences. A massive lawsuit saw George Harrison sued by Ronald Mack of the Chiffons who claimed that Harrison’s juggernaut of a hit ‘My Sweet Lord’ ripped off his song ‘He’s So Fine’.
That lawsuit took nearly two decades to sort out (with Harrison eventually having to pay Mack 75% of royalties earned). Eventually, Harrison bought the original song and ended up owning both.
The other track’s we’ve heard are ‘Beautiful Future’ and the single ‘Can’t Go Back’, and both sound promising, but all three tracks could’ve come from three completely different albums.
We’re looking forward to hearing the rest of the record when it comes out on July 26.
