Is it possible that The Faces may get back together' That bastion of credibility (cough) The Sun is reporting that Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart had lunch last week in London to discuss the possibilities.
The only Face no long with us is Ronnie Lane, who died in 1997. Ian McLagan is alive and well and living in Austin, Texas. Drummer Kenney Jones is also around.Rod Stewart launched his solo career parallel to fronting The Faces. The band recorded its last album ‘Ooh La La’ with Rod in 1972.
The big one was ‘A Nod Is As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse’. It featured the hit ‘Stay With Me’, still a staple at Rod’s solo gigs.
The Faces actually predated Rod. They began as The Small Faces in 1965 and had hits with ‘Lazy Sunday’ and ‘Itchycoo Park’.
The band broke up after singer Steve Marriott left but three of members, McLagan, Lane and Jones decided to continue on as The Faces and recruited Wood and Stewart.
The line-up recorded four studio albums, ‘First Step’ (1970), ‘Long Player’ (1971), ‘A Nod Is As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse’ (1971) and ‘Ooh La La’ (1973) as well as one live album, ‘Coast To Coast: Overture and Beginners’ (1974).
The band broke up in 1975 when Ron Wood jumped ship and joined the Rolling Stones, while Stewart became a solo superstar in his own right, following hits like ‘Maggie Mae’ and ‘You Wear it Well’.
In recent years, Wood and McLagan or McLagan and Jones or Jones and Wood have joined Stewart on stage but only at special guests at his shows.
McLagan, Jones and Wood have also appeared together onstage but without Stewart.
