Abba fans witnessed something they hadn’t seen in 20 years this weekend. The four original members of Abba reunited for the Swedish premiere of Mamma Mia.
Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Faltskog walked the red carpet on Friday night in Stockholm. Meryl Streep was also at the premiere.Abba has not appeared together since 1986 when they got back for one night for manager Stig Anderson’s 55th birthday and then later in the year at a mutual friend’s 40th.
However, in 2005, Agnetha was at the Mamma Mia stage show premiere in Stockholm, but did not appear with the other three members on stage.
The last Abba album was ‘The Visitors’ in 1981.
Agnetha is the stumbling block for the Abba reunion. She has been painted over the years as a recluse but in 2005 dismissed her recluse reputation and said “It’s a picture that the media has created as a punishment for me not showing myself enough.”
Mamma Mia will premiere in Australia on Wednesday. Meryl Streep will be at the Aussie premiere in Melbourne.
