Devo will not be upsizing their disagreement with McDonalds into a fully-fledged lawsuit.
A few weeks ago, Devo’s people talked to McDonalds people about a little guy called New Wave Nigel. New Wave Nigel was a toy given away in a McDonalds Happy Meal.The Devo peeps though that New Wave Nigel looked a lot like the Devo image, you know, that flowerpot hat fashion statement the band is known for.
The doll was part of an American Idol promotion for McDonalds.
According to the office of David Blau, the legal counsel for Devo, “any issue with the McDonald’s New Wave Nigel promotion has been amicably resolved on mutually agreeable terms”.
While there was speculation in the media that the band was suing the hamburger chain, it wasn’t the case. Blau’s office states, “the story about a civil action by Devo against McDonald’s is a rumour and is completely false”.
Devo will be in Australia later this month for Splendour In The Grass, followed by a national tour hitting Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.
