Booker T & The MGs, the band behind 100s of hit songs, has been honored with an induction into the Musician's Hall of Fame.
The Musicians Hall of Fame is somewhat different to the other halls, as it is about acknowledging contributions from behind the scenes and behind the great names.This was the first year of many annual events for the Nashville based Musician's Hall of Fame.
Booker T. & The MGs formed in 1962 in Memphis, Tennessee. As well as Booker T., the group also featured the now legendary Steve Cropper and Donald 'Duck' Dunn.
Their first hit was 'Green Onions' in 1962 but they were also the house-band for Stax/Volt.
As the house-band, they backed Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Eddie Floyd, Albert King, Wilson Pickett, The Staple Singers and Johnnie Taylor.
They played on the hits 'Soul Man', 'Hold On I'm Coming', 'Try A Little Tenderness' and 'Walking The Dog'.
Cropper also co-wrote the evergreens 'Knock On Wood', 'In The Midnight Hour' and '(Sitting On) The Dock Of The Bay'.
Cropper and Dunn's most recent work was recording with Aussie soul star Guy Sebastian.
The Musicians Hall of Fame also this week inducted Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, Memphis Horns, Al Kooper, Billy Sherrill and The Crickets.
