The 16th Meredith Festival got off to a shaky start yesterday as tickets went on sale to the general public.
The festival had put 1,000 tickets on sale to RRR subscribers on Monday, which sold out before the remaining 8,000 hit online and physical stores yesterday.Queues leading into Polyester Records, Greville Records and Missing Link stretched far beyond the small allocation of tickets each store had and quickly sold out.
The remaining tickets were sold through outdoor clothing company, Snowgum's phone and online stores, which are used to handling just a few sales per day.
Those who were lucky enough to get through on the phone (after the website crashed just hours into the on sale time), had their credit card details taken down and written on a piece of paper, no receipt number was given and no notification will be given if they were "successful" in getting tickets.
No more tickets will be available until further notice. For the time being, according to their mailing list, organisers are "cross-checking all online and phone sales purchases for irregularities."
The release goes on to say "An allocation of tickets will then go back on sale at a later date. We will advise of this via our website and mailing list as to this date."
If any tickets are remaining, they will go on sale at a later date to be announced on their mailing list and on their site.
