Edinburgh's Hogmanay party was going to be one of the world's great New Years Eve gigs but instead turned out to be a disaster. The show featuring Pet Shop Boys was cancelled due to the gale storms and heavy rain.
Hogmanay is considered to be one of the world's biggest street parties. However, thanks to mother nature, organizers this week will have to issue tens of thousands of refunds.70mph winds forced the cancellation of the Edinburgh show.
Neil Tennent from Pet Shop Boys was in his hotel room when the news of the cancellation came through at around 8.40pm.
In a statement, Neil commented last night: "We are very disappointed that the Edinburgh New Year's celebrations have been cancelled because of high winds and the danger of people getting injured. And we are sorry for everyone who has travelled to see us and also for the organisers who have spent months putting together what should have been one amazing night."
Just for the record, Pet Shop Boys setlist, had the show gone ahead, was going to be:
Before Midnight:
God willing/Left to my own devices, Suburbia, Can you forgive her?, Minimal/Shopping, Heart, Flamboyant, Se a vida e/Domino dancing.
After midnight:
Opportunities/Integral, Paninaro, Always on my mind, Streets have no name, West End girls, Sodom and Gomorrah Show.
So hard/It's a sin, Go West.
The UK was a washout on New Year's Eve. Other shows were cancelled in Glasgow, Belfast, Liverpool, Newcastle and Stirling.
