Thieves have stolen the headstone of the late Ian Curtis, once singer of the 1970s Manchester legends Joy Division.
The stone was stolen sometime between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning from Macclesfield Cemetery in the singer's hometown of Macclesfield.A police spokesperson told the BBC, "There is no CCTV in the area and there are no apparent leads as to who is responsible for the theft.
"This is a very unusual theft and I am confident that someone locally will have knowledge about who is responsible or where the memorial stone is at present."
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Chelsea Police.
The stone bared the inscriptions "Ian Curtis 18 - 5 - 80" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart".
He hanged himself on the 18th of May, 1980 at his home at just 23 years of age. The remaining members of Joy Division went on to form New Order.
