Sydney band The Vines played their first Australian gig in years last night at Melbourne's hallowed Tote Hotel.
Kids were lined up for hours to get into the tiny Collingwood venue and some even resorted to dangerously jumping the rather high beer garden fence down onto the uneven pavement. The Vines, to me, had always been a great studio band and an awful live band, but last night the band showed that they have finally got their act together.
The band belted through an hour's worth of new material, with a few hits thrown in for good measure.
The crowd reacted to hits 'Get Free' and 'Ride' with uber-enthusiasm, singing every word and wildly jumping around to every note, beat or line coming from that stage.
The new songs sounded promising, although not wildly different from anything the band have done before. They've found a winning formula and they're sticking with it.
For those of you who wanted to go but couldn't make it in, the band will be touring later in the year. Stay tuned for details on that.
