U2 are working on a cover of an old Skids songs with Green Day to benefit Music Rising, a charity organization that replaces instruments for musicians lost or destroyed during Hurricane Katrina.
According to U2.com, the band went back into the studio this week to record the song 'The Saints Are Coming' with producer Rick Rubin.Greenday.com confirms the story with Green Day stating "we were asked by U2 to record the song with them to benefit Music Rising (www.musicrising.org), an organization that replaces instruments musicians lost in Hurricane Katrina's wake. One year later, the devastation is still fresh in our minds, and we'd like to keep it in yours. New Orleans has always been a special city to us, being a hotbed of music and creativity, and it's hard to believe parts of the gulf region still remain devastated. We feel that it's important to continue to raise awareness".
The Skids were the Scottish band featuring the late Stuart Adamson, who later went on to form Big Country.
'The Saints Are Coming' was originally released on their 1978 Indie release 'Scared To Dance'.
The Skids signed with Virgin in 1979 and released 'Days In Europa'. Adamson quit the band in 1981 to start Big Country. The Skids broke up a year later in 1982.
