Comedian George Carlin has died of heart failure at the age of 71.
Carlin, known to many for his funny lines and movie roles, had performed in Las Vegas last week but complained of chest problems on Sunday afternoon.He was taken to the St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica but died on Sunday night.
Carlin was most notorious for his comedy sketch 'Seven Dirty Words'. In 1972, he was arrested for performing the piece in Wisconsin. The piece earned him the reputation of heir-apparent to Lenny Bruce.
To another audience, he is known for his part in the Bill and Ted movies. Carlin played Rufus in the two movies and the cartoon series.
A much younger crowd will know the voice. He was Mr. Conductor on Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends from 1991 to 1998.
Carlin's wife Brenda died in 1997 of liver cancer a day before his 60th birthday.
His daughter Kelly survives him.
