Lil Wayne's album 'The Carter III' has become the first album in three years to sell more than 1 million albums in a week.
'The Carter III' will top the US chart later this week after selling more than the 1 million-benchmark figure earlier this week across America. The last album to sell that many units in one week was 50 Cent's 'The Massacre' in 2005. 'The Massacre' did 1.14 million in the first four days, making it the 6th fastest seller, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
'The Carter III' is the 6th album from Lil Wayne, and the third and last album in 'The Carter' trilogy.
By breaking the million marker, Lil Wayne beat the first week sales for one of his producers, Kanye West. West's album 'Graduation' came close last year but missed the million marker by just 50,000 units. West features on 'Let The Beat Build'.
Other collaborators on the Lil Wayne album are T-Pain, Robin Thicke, The Alchemist and Swizz Beatz.
Lil Wayne 'The Carter III' has beat the number two album by almost 5 to 1. Expect Plies 'Definition of Real' to debut at number 2.
Other top 10 albums this week in the USA will be N.E.R.D.'s 'Seeing Sounds', Alanis Morissette's 'Flavors of Entanglement' and My Morning Jackets 'Evil Urges'.
