The chance of a Van Halen tour with original singer David Lee Roth is heating up following Eddie Van Halen's appearance on Howard Stern's show last Friday.
Van Halen told Stern he was open to play with Roth again. The volatile relationship between the Van Halen band and former singers Roth as well as Sammy Hagar is well documented. However, Eddie almost came across apologetic when he told Stern "I think we were the most ambitious over all and let's address that for a second, and when I say overall I don't just mean on record, I don't just mean onstage, and that's where most bands stop. And I think that Van Halen and myself really used the passport in terms of world travel and trying to invest in a variety of other things that will add to the music."
Roth likewise is talking up reunion possibilities. In May he told Rolling Stone magazine There's contact between the two camps..." says Roth, and "To me, it's not rocket surgery. It's very simple to put together. And as far as hurt feelings and water under the dam, like what's-her-name says to what's-her-name at the end of the movie 'Chicago' - 'So what? It's showbiz!' So I definitely see it happening."
Roth left Van Halen in 1985 after their biggest album '1984' featuring 'Jump' but returned to the studio to record two new tracks with the band for the 1996 compilation 'Best of Vol I'.
In 2002, both Hagar and Roth got together for the Heavyweights of Rock tour and went on the road doing the complete Van Halen greatest hits setlist with original voices for the very first time.
In 2004, Hagar went back to Van Halen and recorded three new songs for 'The Best of Both Worlds' compilation. The album was supported with a tour.
In recent months, rumours have surfaced suggesting the possibility of a 2007 tour with both Sammy and Dave although there has been no official confirmation.
