Sammy Hagar’s new autobiography features some bizarre claims about guitarist Eddie Van Halen’s medical misadventures.
The autobiography, titled Red: My Uncensored Life In Rock, claims that Van Halen cured his cancer by getting parts of his tongue liquefied and injected back into himself, and that the master guitarist actually assisted in his own hip replacement surgery.
Blabbermouth has tracked comments from Hagar while promoting the book on radio, including this strange anecdote regarding the Van Halen reunion tour of 2004.
“[Eddie Van Halen] finally invited me over to this giant, extravagant house that he and Valerie [Bertinelli] had built before she split. It looked like vampires lived there. There were bottles and cans all over the floor. The handle was broken off the refrigerator door. There were spider webs everywhere. . . He told me he cured himself by having pieces of his tongue liquefied and injected into his body. He also told me when he had his hip replacement, he stayed awake through the operation and helped the doctors drill a hole. What a fruitcake."
Hagar also spills the beans on further Van Halen reunions, Best Of Compilations, and the glacial pace of recording with his old band.
Red: My Uncensored Life In Rock will be in stores on March 15.
