Lionel Richie is getting back with The Commodores.
Lionel Richie as a founding member of the band and with the band sang their biggest hits 'Easy', 'Three Times A Lady' and 'Still'.Following the success of his self-titled solo album, Richie left The Commodores for a solo career. That first album featured the hits 'My Love' and 'You Are' but it was 'Can't Slow Down' the following year that catapulted him to superstardom. That album featured 'All Night Long', 'Stuck On You', 'Running With The Night' and 'Penny Lover'.
While Richie's career went through the roof (probably because he was dancing on the ceiling), the band went in the opposite direction and failed to have any more than a few minor hits, including 'Night Shift', following his departure.
The Commodores have never broken up. Original members Walter Orange (vocals, drums) and William 'WAK' King (trumpet, guitar) still tour the band.
The band has only lost one member. Keyboard player Milan Williams died from cancer in 2006.
Richie stated to the press that The Commodores needs to do the reformation thing now. "In 10 years nobody would care", he said.
There is no official timeframe on when Lionel will be back in the band. He says "sometime in the next two years".
