The Herb Alpert Foundation has announced a program to distribute $1.2 million in scholarships for music students.
Alpert's Foundation will offer the program for teenagers at California's State Summer School for the Arts, Innerspark."The time is now to focus public attention on the need for quality arts programs for all California students," Alpert said in a statement. "It is our pleasure to present CSSSAF and InnerSpark with the financial support necessary to provide scholarships to California junior and senior high school students who are committed to developing their talent to continue their education and careers in the arts."
The scholarships include three awards in six categories: Animation and Film/Video, Creative Writing, Dance, Music, Theater and the Visual Arts.
In each category, one student will receive $40,000 to go to the course of their choice, and two students in each category will receive $2500 each.
The Herb Alpert Foundation is a non-profit, private foundation, established in the late 1980's. Herb Alpert and his wife Lani play an active role in the distribution of the funding.
