Manager Glenn Wheatley has been released from prison to serve out the remainder of his sentence at home.
Wheatley served ten months of a two-year sentence, after he pleaded guilty to avoiding $318,000 in taxes. He was released on 24 conditions, mainly being that he has to wear an electronic ankle bracelet during his time at home. He will, however, be allowed to go out for things like a haircut or a trip to the shops under supervision.
Another condition is that he must not have any contact with the media.
The media were at Beechworth Prison, about four hours north of Melbourne, for Wheatley's release just before 5am today (Monday, May 19) and they followed him all the way down the Hume Highway to his South Yarra home. There were reportedly two news helicopters following him, and one hovering above his home.
He was the first victim of Operation Wickenby, a scheme by the police to target white-collar criminals, such as high-income tax evaders.
Wheatley made his name in the 60s as bass player for The Masters Apprentices, before managing Little River Band in the 70s, and then John Farnham up until the present day.
He also helped nurture Delta Goodrem from a very young age, and helped her attain her success.
