The bands of Athens, Georgia will gather to perform the songs of R.E.M. next week (Tuesday, September 12) as fundraiser for local organizations Community Connection and Family Connection/Communities In Schools.
Although R.E.M. are not officially involved in the event, the night is to coincide with the release of the new compilation album 'The Best of the I.R.S. Years (1982-1987) And I Feel Fine'.The line-up will feature Modern Skirts, Five Eight, Patterson Hood from Drive-By Truckers, Hope for Agoldensumer's Claire Campbell, Bain Mattox, Tin Cup Prophette, Liz Durrett and The Observatory.
A CD and DVD version will be released of 'And I Feel Fine'.
Meanwhile, R.E.M. manager Bertis Downs reports at REMHQ.com that Bill Berry will join for the band for the first time in a decade next week to start rehearsal for their induction into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. The band will appear live next Saturday September 16.
