Today (May 14) is ten years since the death of the king of swing, Frank Sinatra and the whole of Las Vegas is celebrating.
It's Frank Sinatra day in Vegas, with marquees to the legendary singer going up in Bally's, Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Circus Circus, Excalibur, Fremont Street Experience, Golden Nugget, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand Las Vegas, Monte Carlo, New York New York, Palms, Sahara, The Mirage, Treasure Island and Wynn Las Vegas will post a special tribute to the man who helped define Las Vegas.Casino owner Steve Wynn will personally lead members of the Sinatra family in a toast at a private V.I.P. reception at Wynn's casino.
Sinatra will also appear on a 42 cent, first class stamp, of which 120,000 will be printed.
Last night Postal Service Governor James Bilbray and stamp artist Kazuhiko Sano were joined by Frank's daughter, Tina Sinatra, at the Bellagio fountains main alcove to officially dedicate the Frank Sinatra stamp.
The post offices at the Bellagio and at Wynn's will be the first to sell the stamp.
Rossi Ralenkotter, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, read an official proclamation from Mayor Oscar Goodman declaring May 14 as Frank Sinatra Day, yesterday.
Ten years without Frank, the world has never been quite as cool.
