Simply Red's Mick Hucknall is about to release a tribute album to Bob by 'Blue' Bland.
On 'Tribute To Bobby', Hucknall has covered 12 songs, dating back to Bland's first No. 1 R&B single 'Farther Up The Road' from 1957."His music has this sophistication to it, a jazz tinge," explains Mick Hucknall of his affinity for Bland's brand of blues. "There's also the darkness of his lyrics - Bobby sings with a really twisted pain and sorrow. He's one of the vocalists who influenced my singing style long before I became a slave to pop success."
Throughout the 50's and 60's, Bland recorded for Duke Records and released the now classics 'Stormy Monday Blues', 'Cry, Cry, Cry', 'Chains of Love' and 'I Pity The Fool'.
