Simply Red will soon be over, according to Mick Hucknall. But wait, Simply Red hasn't been a band since 1995.
Hucknall has announced he is retiring the band after 25 years, but not until he goes on a farewell tour that will carry through until 2009.He told a radio show in the UK that the last Simply Red album 'Stay', released in March 2007, will be the last Simply Red album and that he has already started work on a solo record.
A solo record? Effectively, every Simply Red album since 1991's 'Stars' has been a solo album.
'Stars' still featured Tim Kellet and Fritz McIntyre from the first album.
Simply Red has been a recording name for the solo Hucknall ever since 1995's 'Life' album. Only original member Fritz McIntyre was present for that one.
The first album 'Picture Book' listed the band Simply Red as Tony Bowers (bass), Fritz McIntyre (keyboards), Tim Kellett (brass), Sylvan Richardson (guitar) and Chris Joyce (drums), with Hucknall.
Guitarist Sylvan Richardson was gone for the second album 'Men and Women' in 1987, Tony Bowers and Chris Joyce were out by the third 'Stars'.
Since 1998's 'Blue', Hucknall has been the only one left from the first record.
Over the years, Simply Red has amassed a grand total of 18 members.
Simply Red to split? Get real Mick, that happened in the mid 90s. Didn't you notice?
